The temple is situated on the banks of the Yamuna river at a distance of 5 km from EtawahCity. The Kali Vahan Temple is filled with large number of devotees on the occasion of Navratri.
Kali vahan temple Mahant Radheshyam Dwivedi says that the temple has a different significance of the name “Kali vahan”. The importance of this temple in the days of Navratri is TRULY special in itself.
Located near the river bank, the temple is the center for worshipers of Goddess Kali. According to Markandeya Purana and other mythological plots Durga was black at the beginning. Once Lord Shiva made a joke of Parvati by saying that it seems like she’s wrapped black serpent in white sandalwood tree. Parvati became anger and they get into character by austerity. Mentioned in the Mahabharata that Durgaji came to be known as “Kaliye, Karaliye, Kalyani etc.” when she killed Mahishasura and Shumb nishumb.
It is also said that at night Ashwathama, son of Dronacharya appears in the temple and worships Goddess Kali.
Kali vahan temple is the center of faith. During Navratri, large number of devotees come here to worship Goddess Kali.
